List of regional and rural councils in Northern Territory. Council information is sourced largely from http://www.lgam.info/list-of-australian-councils and no accuracy is guaranteed. The list on this site excludes councils in the larger cities. It is meant to be a tool to help people research property with a view to downsizing, making a sea change or a tree change.

The Alice Springs Town Council is a local government area in the Northern Territory. It is situated 1,498 kilometres (931 mi) south of the Darwin. The council governs an area of 327.50 square kilometres (126.45 sq mi) and had a population of 24,753 at the 2016 census.

The Barkly Regional Council is a local government area of the Northern Territory, Australia. The region's main town is Tennant Creek. The region covers an area of 322,514 square kilometres (124,523 sq mi) and had a population of over 6,500 as at the 2016 Census.

The Belyuen Shire is a local government area in the Northern Territory, Australia near Wagait, across Port Darwin from the city of Darwin. The administrative area is centered on the mostly Indigenous community of Belyuen, known officially as Delissaville prior to 1975.

Belyuen was established as a Community Government Council on 28 August 1992. On 1 July 2008, Coomalie Council became one of the eleven shires in the territory, changed by the Northern Territory Government.

The Central Desert Regional Council is a local government area of the Northern Territory, Australia. The Council's main towns are Ti Tree, Yuendumu and Lajamanu. The Region covers an area of 282,090 square kilometres (108,916 sq mi) and had a population of over 3,500 people as at the 2016 Census.

The City of Palmerston is a local government area of the Northern Territory. It contains the suburbs of Darwin's satellite city, Palmerston, and is situated between the outer industrial areas of Darwin and the rural areas of Howard Springs. The City covers an area of 52.9 square kilometres (20.4 sq mi) and as at the 2016 census had a population of 33,786.

The Coomalie Community Government Council is a local government area in Australia's Northern Territory, situated south of Darwin and Palmerston. The council governs an area of 1,500 km2 (580 sq mi). The shire had a population of 1,319 at the 2016 census.

The City of Darwin is a local government area of the Northern Territory, Australia. It includes the central business district of the capital, Darwin, and represents two-thirds of its metropolitan population. The City covers an area of 112 square kilometres (43 sq mi) and, at the 2016 census, had a population of 78,804 people.

The East Arnhem Regional Council is a local government area of the Northern Territory, Australia. Situated in the far north-eastern corner of the Northern Territory, the region covers an area of 33,359 square kilometres (12,879.98 sq mi) and had a population of approximately 9,000 as at the 2016 Census.

The Katherine Town Council is a local government area in the Northern Territory, established on 3 March 1978. It is situated 320 kilometres (200 mi) south of Darwin, and covers an area of 7,421 square kilometres (2,865 sq mi).

The Litchfield Council is a local government area of the Northern Territory of Australia on the eastern and southeastern outskirts of the Darwin-Palmerston urban area. The municipality covers an area of 2,914.3 square kilometres (1,125.2 sq mi), and was created by the Northern Territory government on 6 September 1985.
